The Differences Between Hypnosis, Counseling, and Behavior Therapy

Finding help for life’s struggles or mental health conditions is often vital to long-term health and well-being. It can sometimes be difficult, though, to find the right type of therapy for your particular needs. It’s helpful to educate yourself on the different options available in order to make a choice that’s right for you. Hypnosis, counseling, and behavior therapy are three options available. Hypnosis


Hypnosis or hypnotherapy has been used for decades to help individuals deal with unresolved trauma, maladaptive behaviors, and other mental health challenges. According to Coach Foundation, this form of therapy displayed a 93% success rate over six sessions compared to a 38% success rate in psychotherapy.

During hypnotherapy, a person can be trained to react differently to triggers, stimuli, and habits. This can be revolutionary for individuals who have trouble coming to terms with why they do what they do. Under subconscious suggestion, individuals can re-wire their brains to behave in a more acceptable and helpful way.


Counseling


Counseling is another option that many people find to be helpful. This is traditional therapy which focuses on talking out feelings, experiences, and emotions. This is helpful for individuals who have a hard time expressing these things in their day-to-day lives or are in situations where they don’t feel comfortable enough to express themselves. Once a person can start expressing what has happened to them and how they feel about it, it’s easier to come to terms with these things and develop ways to move forward. Counseling can be used in conjunction with hypnosis.


Cognitive Behavioral Therapy


Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, is a targeted form of therapy that helps individuals develop coping strategies to overcome limiting beliefs, thoughts, or attitudes. CBT is more about training the mind to consciously react in more adaptive and healthy ways, while hypnosis reaches into the mind on a subconscious level.
